INDIANAPOLIS – Following almost a two-week hiatus from competition, the IUPUI men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to the pool on Thursday, Oct. 21, to take on Eastern Illinois University in a dual meet at the IUPUI Natatorium at 6 p.m.

The men’s team enters the head-to-head meet with a record of 2-2 on the season, while the women’s team sits at 0-1. Both teams will compete at home for the second time this season.
Last time out, #Katelyn Cato and Tyler McGowan# led their respective squads and were both recently named The Summit League Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct..

Cato posted six top-three finishes in the Jaguars’ first two meets of the season, including winning three events in her collegiate debut. The freshman won the 100 back (1:02.06) and 200 back (2:12.54) events and helped the 200 free relay team (1:43.94) to a win in her first career meet.

The honor was McGowan’s fourth career honor and the first of Cato’s collegiate career.

The Jaguars placed second of three teams in a triangular meet with Asbury and Butler on Friday. On Saturday morning, the Jaguars followed up with a third-place finish at the Ball State Relays.

Cato is the first women’s student-athlete to be awarded Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honors since Oct. 13, 2009, when diver Chen Ni was recognized. She’s the first women’s swimmer to be honored since Sara Smith on Dec. 20, 2007.

McGowan notched seven top-two finishes and two race wins in the season’s opening week to earn the honor. In the dual meet victory over Asbury, McGowan won the 100 fly (53.69) and 200 fly (1:56.19) and recorded two other second-place finishes. At the season-opening meet in Fishers, he helped the Jaguars to a third-place showing.

Following Thursday’s dual meet with Eastern Illinois, the Jaguars hit the road for a dual meet against Centre College in Danville, Ky., on Friday, Oct. 22, at 5:30 p.m., before heading up to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Indiana Intercollegiates Meet on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Noon.
