BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - IUPUI junior Ana Paez spun a personal record 6K time of 22:16.1 as she helped the Jaguars to an eighth-place finish at the Falcon Invite on Saturday morning. Paez' time was the third quickest 6K in school history and was 17 seconds shy of establishing a new record at that distance.

Paez was one of five Jaguars to notch new 6K PR's on Saturday, not counting the two freshmen running their first career races at that distance.

"Overall, it was a good day in that we saw a lot of PRs," IUPUI Head Coach Joni Sanders said. "We see we've got some work to do before our last two major meets of the season and in terms of closing some of the gaps and trying to run stronger as a team."

Paez highlighted the day, bettering her previous best 6K by more than 14 seconds in a ninth-place finish.

"Ana had a great race and we were real excited to have someone in the top 10," Sanders said. "She ran a really strong race and had a big time PR."

Behind her, senior Brittney McDuffee came in at 22:58 to place 39th and freshman #Rebekah Jones# was 46th at 23:06.3.

"Beckie Jones ran a super 6K for her first 6K as a freshman. She actually PR'd through the 5K, so it was a really good day for her," Sanders said.

Sophomores Kaci Verkamp and Rebecca Downs rounded out the scoring five, placing 64th and 81st overall. Both recorded their fastest 6K's of their college careers.

"Kaci was really solid," Sanders said. "She and Becca both ran strong, steady races."

Sanders also commended the efforts of the Jaguars' other three entries on Saturday. Freshman Mariana Lopez-Owens placed 87th in her first collegiate 6K while both Alex Louden and Allie McGraw also ran PR's.

"Mariana ran a good first 6K for a freshman," Sanders said.  "Alex ran a great race - one of the best races I've ever seen her run. And Allie ran a good race and PR'd too, which was good for her."

Malone University edged Kent State by nine points for the team title and Ashland was third with 84 points. IUPUI came in with 209 points, falling eight behind seventh-place Youngstown State. Ashland's Mandy Farson took the individual tape in a time of 21:44, beating the field by more than 10 seconds.

IUPUI's next outing will be The Summit League Championships, being held at Northview Church in Carmel, Ind. on Oct. 30. The Jaguars enter the meet seeking their first-ever Summit League title.
