INDIANAPOLIS - All eyes in The Summit League will be on Indianapolis on Thursday as first-place Oakland will invade The Jungle to take on second place IUPUI in a 7:00 p.m. tipoff. IUPUI (15-7, 8-1 Summit) comes in riding a season-best five-game winning streak while Oakland (15-7, 9-0) has won 16 straight league games dating back to last year, tying a Summit all-time record.
The student section, dubbed the Red Zone, is asking IUPUI fans to come dressed in white to take part in a WHITE OUT.
Some of the league's top individual talent will be on display as IUPUI boasts the league's top two scorers in sophomore
Alex Young and senior
Robert Glenn. The duo is one of only two teammate combos in the nation to both be averaging 18 points per game or more. Duke's Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith top the list with both scoring better than 18.5 per game entering this week. Young leads The Summit at 18.2 points per game while Glenn is second at 18.1 per.
Young is also tops in The Summit in threes made per game while Glenn is the league's top field goal shooter at 56.8 percent.
Oakland is led by 6-foot-11 junior center Keith Benson, who comes in averaging 17.5 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. In the backcourt, senior guard Johnathon Jones is The Summit's all-time assists leader and is netting 11.9 points and 6.1 helpers per game this year. OU hasn't lost since Dec. 22 when the Grizz lost to Syracuse inside the Carrier Dome.
Adding to Thursday's intrigue is the coaching matchup. IUPUI Head Coach
Ron Hunter and OU Head Coach Greg Kampe both enter with 103 career league wins, tying them for third on The Summit's all-time list.
The Golden Grizzlies won the previous meeting between the two schools, 85-82 in Rochester, Mich. on Jan. 2. All five IUPUI starters scored in double-digits that night while OU's Derick Nelson paced all players with 24 points.
Pregame coverage will begin on IUPUIJags.com at approximately 6:50 p.m.. Scott McCauley (play-by-play) and IUPUI Hall of Famer Jared Lux (analyst) will be on the call with free audio and subscription video available at the links at the top of the page.
