INDIANAPOLIS - Thursday's men's basketball game with Oral Roberts, dubbed "Retro Metro Night", will include IUPUI Head Coach Ron Hunter in his bare feet, plenty of giveaways, special recognitions of former student-athletes from all sports and video tributes on the scoreboard on what's sure to be a special evening.

Fans in attendance will receive a retro IUPUI headband and 2010 IUPUI calendar, produced by the Office of Communications and Marketing, University Library Special Collections and Archives and Intercollegiate Athletics. Each month depicts photos from different sports, spanning different eras. The Conseco Fieldhouse video board will be busy throughout the evening with segments featuring IUPUI student-athletes from past and present, trivia and factoids detailing the program's history.

IUPUI 1970's huddle
On the court, the Jaguars will be wearing 1970's replica Metros jerseys (photo right) for the first time in school history. The jerseys will depict a cursive 'Metros' across the chest with the numbers in the lower left-hand portion of the front.

During the game, the department will be recognizing a number of important attendees. Former student-athletes in attendance will be recognized during halftime and all former student-athletes have been invited to a pregame reception inside the Varsity Club. Those wishing to attend should contact Sharon Holland in the Alumni Relations Office. Indianapolis-based Healing Arts Indy will also be offering free massages inside the main lobby throughout the game.

The newest IUPUI Hall of Famers expected to be in attendance, Michelle Cunningham Sorrell (women's tennis) and Kim King (men's basketball), will be recognized during the evening, along with members of the 1972 men's basketball team. All will be officially inducted on Friday, Jan. 29 at University Place Hotel & Conference Center.

Fans and students are urged to go to BW3's downtown before the game with food and drink specials being provided. In addition, students are asked to wear their favorite 70's gear to contribute to the atmosphere.

Lastly, Hunter will be walking the sidelines in his bare feet for the third straight year, helping bring recognition to locally based Samaritan's Feet. The IUPUI Head Coach has set a goal of raising over 2,000,000 pairs of shoes to be distributed both in the U.S. and overseas. He and a small group of head coaches intend to travel to South Africa later this summer for a shoe distribution. For more information on Samaritan's Feet, go to their website.
