INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team will open up its 2009 fall season on Friday night at Kuntz Stadium by celebrating its record setting 2008 campaign. Members of the 2008 squad will receive their Summit League championship rings following Friday's match with Eastern Illinois.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m..
The 2008 team won a school record 13 matches, including going 7-1 in Summit League play to earn a share of the program's first-ever regular season crown. IUPUI also notched a school record eight shutouts and had four student-athletes earn All-Summit League honors, led by Newcomer of the Year
Alicia Brock.
Head Coach
Chris Johnson's team was recently picked to finish third in The Summit in 2009 in the preseason coaches poll. The Jaguars return 10 starters from a year ago and its top 10 scorers from 2008. Brock netted nine goals in her first collegiate season and
Katrina McCrory and
Megan Hock tallied seven each.
Defensively, senior goalkeeper
Jamie Farrell leads the way, having already taken over as IUPUI's all-time leader in shutouts, wins, saves, matches started and minutes played. In front of her, the core of
Kelly Williams,
Margaret Allgeier,
Anna Pigg and
Stephanie Hoffman also return.
Eastern Illinois, under first-year Head Coach Summer Perala, was pegged to finish eighth in the Ohio Valley Conference this season. IUPUI is 0-2 all-time against the Panthers.
