SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Fourth-seeded IUPUI will begin its annual run through March Madness, taking on fifth seeded Southern Utah in The Summit League quarterfinals on Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. EST (6 CST). Pregame coverage begins on XL 950 at 6:30 and the game can also be viewed on the SummitTV subscription service.
IUPUI (16-13) swept the season series with the Thunderbirds and has won six straight meetings between the two schools.
Led by Summit League Newcomer of the Year
Robert Glenn's 22 points, the Jaguars rolled past SUU (10-19) 79-65 in Cedar City on Jan. 29. IUPUI built a 10-point lead in the opening four minutes and led from wire-to-wire in the victory. Glenn hit 9-of-10 shots in the win and both
Jon Avery and
Leroy Nobles added 15 each.
IUPUI is coming off a win last Saturday at Western Illinois and clinched its eighth straight season of finishing at or above .500. The Jaguars got 17 points from freshman
Alex Young and 15 each from Glenn and
Gary Patterson in the 71-66 victory. Western Illinois tied the game at 64 all with 1:39 left, but got back-to-back defensive stops in the closing 90 seconds to seal the win and keep WIU from the postseason field.
Glenn earned the league's top newcomer award after ranking among The Summit leaders in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots, steals and field goal percentage in league play. He was also voted Second Team All-Summit by the league's coaches, media and sports information personnel.
The Jaguars have never lost a quarterfinals round game in the postseason tournament and own a .650 winning percentage (13-7) in the event. However, IUPUI has never advanced past the semifinals round in two previous entries as the No. 4 seed, falling to top seeded Oral Roberts the past two occurences.
With a win, IUPUI will take on the winner of the North Dakota State/Centenary game on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. EST (6 CST).
