INDIANAPOLIS - Visiting Oakland shot 56 percent from the floor and got a career-high 24 points from freshman Blake Cushingberry on its way to an 81-76 win over IUPUI on Senior Night in The Jungle on Saturday. IUPUI Head Coach Ron Hunter received two technical fouls with 11:41 remaining in the game when Robert Glenn missed a contested dunk attempt in front of the Jaguars' bench.

Erik Kangas made three of the four ensuing free throws before the media timeout to give Oakland (18-11, 11-5 Summit) a 65-45 lead. However, the Jaguars came out of the timeout energized and outscored the guests 10-1 over the next three minutes, capped by a Leroy Nobles three that forced Oakland to call a timeout.

OU pushed the lead back out to 16 with 4:31 left when Cushingberry got loose for a layup, but IUPUI (15-13, 8-9) exploded with a 13-0 run over the next three minutes and had a chance to tie the game in the final minute. The Jaguars, led by Associate Head Coach Todd Howard after Hunter's ejection, got a key defensive stop with 53 seconds left when Glenn rejected a Cushingberry drive and the carom came free to Gary Patterson

IUPUI ran through its offense before settling on a Glenn three-point attempt from the left wing, which rang off the back iron. Cusingberry was fouled on the rebound and the Golden Grizzlies made four free throws in the final 22 seconds to seal the win and the season sweep over the Jaguars.

"My getting kicked out was probably the key to the game tonight," Hunter said. "That changed the game right there.

"I'm really proud of how the guys came back after that, but we have to play better defensively. You can't get down like we did tonight, you just can't allow opponents to shoot 56 percent or score 81 points in your house."

OU controlled from the outset as Johnathon Jones carved up the IUPUI zone to get both easy layups and clean looks at threes for his teammates. Head Coach Greg Kampe's team upped its lead to 27-16 with 7:22 before halftime on a Keith Benson layup, but IUPUI's guard tandem of Adrian Moss and Larry Stone pulled the Jags within 42-36 by halftime.

A Moss three-point play with 17:42 left got the Jags within three, but an 11-0 OU run began to shorten Hunter's fuse.

Moss scored a career-high 14 points and Glenn led the Jaguars with 18 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Nobles matched his career-high with four threes made and scored 16 and Jon Avery netted 10 of his 14 in the second half.

IUPUI also got a season-high from Stone, who finished with seven points and three assists in 12 minutes off the bench.

Cushingberry made 8-of-11 shots, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, to nearly double his previous career-high. Benson added 18 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots and Kangas scored 17 on four threes and five free throws. Jones handed out 15 assists against just four turnovers.

IUPUI hit 46 percent from the floor and 9-of-20 (45 percent) from three, but came up short as Oakland hit 9-of-18 (50 percent) from downtown.

Patterson, IUPUI's sole senior, was honored before Saturday night's game with the Melvyn Garland Men's Basketball Award, given annually to a student-athlete in the program who exhibits leadership and high character. The 5-foot-10 veteran handed out a team-high four assists, playing in front of his former high school team in attendance.

The Jaguars will wrap up its regular season next Saturday when it heads to Macomb, Ill. to take on Western Illinois. The Leathernecks knocked off the Jaguars in Indianapolis, 58-48 on Dec. 6. Saturday's game will tipoff at 8:00 p.m. EST with XL 950's pregame coverage beginning at 7:30.
