INDIANAPOLIS -- The IUPUI swimming and diving teams could not quite come up with a victory in duals with Western Illinois, Ball State and St. Louis University on Saturday afternoon at the IU Natatorium.
Michael Steurer shone for the men's team, sweeping both backstroke events, while
Chen Ni took the top spot in both diving disciplines.
The IUPUI men picked up six podiums in the meet, as Steurer led the way with two. In the 100 back, the junior posted a winning time of 54.06; just a short while later, he was first to the wall in 1:56.67.
Steurer capped his day with a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM.
Andrew Heideman nearly picked up a first-place result in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:17.98, holding off Ball State's Jordan Rantz by .11 second.
In the diving well,
Mitchell Gauger was third on the 1-meter board, posting a solid score of 249.00.
Justin Shaw and
Tyler McGowan each finished just off the podium in fourth place in the 50 free and 200 fly, respectively.
Ni picked up the most individual points for the Jaguar women, sweeping the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. With a score of 296.40 on the 3-meter board, Ni won by a whopping 42 points; the sophomore took the 1-meter crown by 37 points after posting a score of 267.35.
In the pool,
Carrie Ford was IUPUI's top individual finisher, taking second in the 1000 free in a time of 11:05.57; the junior took third in the 500 free in 5:24.83.
