INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI basketball team will open its 2009 home schedule on Wednesday night when it hosts IU East inside The Jungle at 7:00 p.m.. Both audio and video will be available via the web at the links listed above as Scott McCauley (play-by-play) calls the action.
IUPUI (4-1) is coming off a successful 2-1 trip to Daytona Beach, Fla. including wins over Austin Peay and Georgia State. Auburn handed the Jaguars its lone loss of the season on Saturday, outlasting IUPUI 80-65 at the Glenn Wilkes Classic. Both senior
Robert Glenn and sophomore
Alex Young were named to the Classic All-Tournament Team, led by Glenn's 21.5 points per game over the four outings.
The Jaguars needed overtime to get past Georgia State on Sunday as Young tossed in a career-high 22 points in the win. IUPUI endured five missed shots from the Panthers over the final two minutes to force overtime, the last coming when Glenn blocked a three-point attempt at the buzzer. After GSU opened the overtime session with a three-point play, IUPUI responded with an 8-0 run beginning with a Young driving dunk on a three-point play.
Young hit 7-of-19 shots and grabbed eight rebounds in the win and junior
John Ashworth tossed in a season-high 14 points, all in the second half.
IUPUI has won nine straight home openers by a nearly 25 points per game margin. The Jaguars dropped its home opener to Miami (Ohio) in 1999, but have since reeled off nine straight decisions, all by double-figures.
IUPUI leads the all-time series with IUE 6-4 including a 92-55 victory last season.
