TULSA, Okla. - The IUPUI basketball team looks for its second-ever NCAA Tournament berth on Tuesday night when it takes on top-seeded Oral Roberts (23-8) in The Summit League championship game. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET from John Q. Hammons Arena at the UMAC on Tuesday night as that game will be carried on ESPN. Ron Franklin (pbp) and Fran Fraschilla (color) will be on the call.
IUPUI (26-6), led by Summit League Player of the Year
George Hill, has won 13 of its past 14 games and established new single-season records for wins (26), winning percentage (.815) and conference wins (15) this season. Hill turned in 32 points, 13 rebounds and five assists in the Jags' 80-65 win over Oakland in the semifinals on Monday night.
IUPUI and ORU split this year's season series with each team holding serve on its home floor. The Jags fell by a single point in Tulsa before escaping with a three-point victory in Indianapolis in February. ORU eeked past IPFW in semifinal #1 on Monday night at the UMAC.
Tuesday night will be head coach Ron Hunter's team's first appearance in the conference championship game since 2004. He led the 2003 team to the conference crown and the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.
With the top two seeds combined on 31 conference wins this year, Tuesday's game is the much anticipated rubber match.
“It’s going to be a great showdown,” Hunter said. “We have a doubleheader again. We expect it to be a sellout crowd. We expect it to be a hostile crowd. We just have to come out and do what we do.”
