INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI basketball team ran its home winning streak to 17 games with an easy 92-55 win over IU East on Saturday night. All 12 Jaguars scored, led by junior Robert Glenn's game-high 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

Defensively, IUPUI (2-2) pestered IU East (6-3) into less than 39 percent shooting from the field and 24 turnovers while the Jaguars' freewheeling offense fired at a collective 62 percent clip from the floor. Junior Jon Avery pitched in 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and sophomore Leroy Nobles hit 5-of-7 shots to finish with 12.

Four Jaguars finished the night with three steals as 17 of Red Wolves turnovers were the result of IUPUI thefts.

"We wanted to win this game on the defensive end," IUPUI Head Coach Ron Hunter said. "We got after them and got some easy buckets. I knew if we pressed them defensively, the offense would come to us and we set the tone early."

IUPUI built a 14-point lead in the game's first nine minutes, capped by Avery's old fashioned three-point play on a putback of his own miss. After the teams traded baskets during the middle of the half, IUPUI closed with a 10-2 run before halftime to take a 42-18 advantage to the break.

IUE hit just 8-of-24 (33.3 percent) shots in the first half and turned the ball over 13 times, resulting in 14 IUPUI points. The lead swelled to 41 with 11:13 to play on Aaron Morris' first career field goal, making the score 68-27.

The Red Wolves got 13 points apiece from Tyler Rigby and Cory Sitton as the duo combined to hit all six of IUE's three-point baskets.

Junior Billy Pettiford hit all four of his shots for a season-high nine points and three others finished with seven. Sophomore John Ashworth delivered eight of IUPUI's 21 assists and had no turnovers.

"I thought John Ashworth gave us another strong effort at the point guard spot. He just calms us down and gets everyone involved," Hunter said.

IUPUI outrebounded IUE 38-27 as Pettiford, Nobles and Glenn all snagged a game-high five. No IUPUI player played more than 25 minutes.

"We got a look at some of the other guys, and I think that's going to help us down the road," Hunter said. "Those guys have to understand that they need to be ready when their time comes. I saw some things I liked and some things I didn't really like.

"We'll get back to practice and continue working to be a better basketball team."

IUPUI returns to action on Tuesday night when it hosts Eastern Illinois inside downtown Conseco Fieldhouse. As part of "Black Out Conseco", fans are urged to wear black for the 7:30 p.m. tipoff. The men's game is the backend of a doubleheader as the women's team hosts USC-Upstate at 5:00 p.m..

Tickets are available via the Ticketmaster website and that game can be heard on 95.9 FM as Greg Rakestraw calls the action. Live video and live stats are also available via IUPUIJags.com.
