Meet Results
INDIANAPOLIS -- Competing without several swimmers, the IUPUI men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell in their home opener against Eastern Illinois.
Chen Ni broke her own school records on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards for the Jaguars.
The IUPUI men fell to EIU, 152-127, while the women lost 170-126. Following a second-place showing in the 200 medley relay, the Jaguar men picked up their next podium finish in the 200 freestyle, where
Tyler McGowan took first in a time of 1:46.41. Midway through the meet, McGowan touched the wall first in the 200 butterfly, hitting the wall in 2:00.62. The Vincennes, Ind.-native picked up another first-place finish in the 200 IM, breaking 2:00 with a 1:59.46 finish.
Jaguar sophomore
Michael Steurer continued his strong early-season effort in the backstroke, finishing first in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstrokes. Steurer posted times of 56.06 and 2:01.04, respectively. Placing on the podium with Steurer was
Luke Towne, who took third in the 100 and second in the 200.
Steven Zoss and
Jaron Tuttle took the other first-place results for the Jaguars, as Zoss won the 50 free in 22.75, while Tuttle was unopposed in the men's diving competition.
The biggest highlight of the evening came on the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards, where Ni scored a 261.90 on the 1-meter and a 281.70 on the 3-meter board, breaking the school records she set two weeks prior at Western Illinois. Just as it happened at WIU,
Elizabeth Scott was second in both events to Ni, moving up the career podiums list.
Earlier in the program,
Natalie Jarrett picked up the team's first podium finish with a second-place in the 200 freestyle. Two events later, Jarrett finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.37.
Freshman
Grace Lamb followed shortly after Jarrett with a third in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 1:04.60.
Carrie Ford and
Alexandra McCreight picked up the only other first-place finishes for the Jaguars, as Ford won both the 200 butterfly and 500 freestyle. Ford won by over a second in the 200 fly, hitting the wall in 2:19.17. In the 500 free, Ford placed first in 5:26.66.
McCreight led a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 200 IM, beating
Olivia Briolat to the wall by .19 second in 2:21.06. Briolat was followed by Ford in 2:22.22, while
April Robinson rounded out the sweep.
The Jaguars will be back in the pool next Friday, October 17, when they host Butler University and Centre College in a three-way dual. The meet will begin at 5:30 p.m. from the IU Natatorium.
