JAGS DROP FINAL NON-CONFERENCE TILT OF THE SEASON AT BUTLER, 2-0

10/23/2007 10:19:06 AM

INDIANAPOLIS - Butler got goals right before and after halftime from Angie Muir on Tuesday afternoon on its way to a 2-0 win over IUPUI at the Butler Bowl. The Bulldogs enjoyed a 22-12 shot advantage in the victory.

Angie Muir made it 1-0 right before halftime, netting a free kick from the top of the 18 with 7.7 seconds left in the opening period. The free kick occurred after sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Farrell was assessed a yellow card after getting tangled with Abbie Kaul on a breakaway in which Farrell made a sliding save.

Muir struck again just 55 seconds into the second half for her ninth goal of the season. Cara Burchette tapped a pass to Muir on the right flank, who blazed a shot over Farrell's head inside the right post.

The match started in see-saw fashion as IUPUI had the first scoring opportunity of the day when senior Angie Pilat hit an early crossbar off a shot in traffic. The Jaguars held an early 4-1 shot advantage but ended up being outshot 14-7 over the opening half.

Freshman Kelly Williams played two balls off the back line in the opening 16 minutes, keeping the game tied. The first was a direct drive that was headed just inside the left post off the foot of Muir.

Moments later, Williams outran a Jenny Southard rolling attempt that was headed for the mouth of the net. Farrell, the reigning Summit League Defensive Player of the Week, also recorded nine saves as Butler put 11 shots on net to IUPUI's six.

Lindsey Fox led Butler with seven shots while IUPUI sophomore Katrina McCrory had a team-high four tries. Butler's Annalise Larkin needed six saves in the shutout.

IUPUI's best look of the second half came on a long drive from Stephanie Hoffman off a restart.

IUPUI returns to action this weekend when they travel to Macomb to take on Western Illinois. The Westerwinds currently sit atop the Summit League standings at a perfect 4-0 in conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m..
