CHICAGO - Chicago State got 17 second half points from 5-foot-6 guard David Holston en route to a 74-66 win over IUPUI in the Jacoby Dickens Center on Thursday night. Sophomore George Hill (Indianapolis, Ind./Broad Ripple) hit 9-of-15 shots and led the Jags with 22 points in the loss.

The defeat snapped IUPUI's nine-game winning streak and was the Jaguars' first Mid-Continent Conference loss since Jan. 14.

"We just played with no energy tonight," IUPUI head coach Ron Hunter said. "We weren't ready to play and I'll take responsibility for that.

"When you're on the road, you have to be ready to play and have to play with an edge. We just didn't do that tonight."

IUPUI (18-8, 13-2 Mid-Con) surged out to a 10-2 lead in the game's opening four minutes, but went cold for the remainder of the first half from there. The Jags hit four of its first seven shots out of the gates, but connected on just 4-of-20 the rest of the way as Chicago State (8-18, 7-8 Mid-Con) slowly heated up.

Despite getting little early production from Holston and leading scorer Royce Parran, CSU's bit players ignited a 13-2 run that gave the hosts a 17-15 lead.

Kevin Jones, Jr. started the spurt with back-to-back treys and Camron Clay capped it with a two-handed dunk. After IUPUI regained a brief 19-17 lead, Chicago State outscored the Jags 8-3 down the stretch to take a 27-22 edge to halftime.

The Cougars never trailed in the second half.

Junior David Barlow (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) tied the game with 12:10 left when the lefty stroked a trey from the top of the key. After the two teams traded trips to the free throw line, Chicago State used an 8-2 run to take the lead for good. Holston started the run with his first field goal of the game with just over 10 minutes left before Nikko Briteramos contributed back-to-back short jumpers.

IUPUI clawed back within three when Matt Burks (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert) swished a three off a pitch from Hill, but the Cougars scored the game's next four points to ice the win. The victory was CSU's fifth straight home win and third-in-a-row over IUPUI in Chicago.

Despite hitting nearly 57 percent from the floor in the second half, the Jags finished at just 42 percent after an 8-of-27 showing in the opening 20 minutes. IUPUI hit just 7-of-22 (31.8 percent) from three-point range and 68 percent from the line.

Chicago State hit 55 percent in the second half and finished at 45.8 percent. The hosts also hit 7-of-16 from three-point range and outscored IUPUI 23-17 at the foul line.

Barlow finished with 14 points and five assists while Cole added 12. Senior Maushae Byles (Racine, Wisc./Racine Case) had eight points and a career-high nine rebounds off the bench.

Holston led CSU with 17, including 7-of-8 at the foul line while Jones added 13 points and eight rebounds. Briteramos had 10 points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench.

IUPUI closes out the regular season on Saturday night when they travel to Cedar City to face Southern Utah (9-19, 7-8 Mid-Con). Game time is slated for 9:35 pm EST from The Centrum. ESPN 950's pregame coverage begins at 9:00 pm with Greg Rakestraw on the call.

An IUPUI win would seal the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Mid-Continent Conference Tournament and assure the Jags postseaspn play.
