INDIANAPOLIS - Currently sitting on top of the Mid-Continent Conference standings, IUPUI heads west this week for a critical two-game road trip. The Jaguars will take on UMKC (7-7, 4-1 Mid-Con) on Thursday before heading to Oral Roberts (8-8, 3-1 Mid-Con) on Saturday night.
IUPUI (8-6, 3-0 Mid-Con) is currently riding a three-game winning streak to open league play, including back-to-back thrilling one-point wins. On Saturday, the Jags saw their 16-point second half lead erased before they escaped with a 67-66 win over Southern Utah.
The visiting Thunderbirds had a three-point lead in the final minute, but junior guard David Barlow cut it to 66-65 with a layup with 15 ticks left. Southern Utah turned the ball over on their ensuing possession when Brandon Cameron picked off a reversal pass and was fouled trying to score underneath.
The Penn State-transfer sank two free throws with 9.8 seconds left and eventually grabbed the defensive rebound on Henry Uhegwu's last second jumper to seal the victory.
Barlow finished with a career-high 18 points while George Hill added 17. IUPUI's 3-0 start in the Mid-Con matches the program's best-ever beginning.
IUPUI is just 7-11 all-time against UMKC and 4-5 in Kansas City. The Kangaroos swept last season's series. The Jags are 8-8 all-time against Oral Roberts, despite losing all three meetings between the schools in 2005. IUPUI is 3-4 all-time at the Mabee Center in Tulsa.
Thursday's game in Kansas City will tip at 7:00 CST (8:00 Indianapolis-time), while Saturday's game in Tulsa is slated to jump at 7:05 CST (8:05 Indianapolis-time).
